THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED.

Thanks for entering!

A well-dressed man can’t have too many ties. Just ask Will over at Momentum of Failure. My man is wrapping up his 100 Days of Ties project, in which he wore a tie every day for the past 100 working days. I particularly appreciate his motivation, which essentially is to bring a bit of class to today’s overly-casual sense of style.

I think it’s time for you to do the same, and what better way than to add a fresh new tie to your (hopefully growing) collection?

The folks at Lumina Clothing Company have partnered up with Effortless Gent to provide a super cool giveaway for you.

Have you heard of Lumina?

They’re an awesome outfit with a great story. Back in 2008, the company began by providing bespoke neckwear, but have since expanded into ready-to-wear ties and bow ties. All their products are made here in the good ol’ USA… down in North Carolina. If you haven’t checked them out, I urge you to take a look and see what they have to offer. They’ve got a great selection of neckwear at surprisingly affordable prices.

Think about it: if you’re on the hunt for an awesome tie, why not buy from a few great guys producing quality goods right here in the US? I love when local, small businesses and clothing lines do everything they can to keep all aspects of production here in the US (something Katie and I are proud to say we do with Fifth&Brannan,) and we as healthy consumers should support the home team. You know what I mean?

On to the giveaway

I have one tie and one bow tie to give to you, my awesome readers.

To enter to win, do two things. One, simply subscribe to the Effortless Gent (and don’t worry, EG doesn’t give away your email address or send out spam… ever.) If you’re already a subscriber, perfect! You don’t need to re-subscribe.

Next, leave a comment below and let us know how often you wear a tie. Every day? Only on special occasions? On Fancy Fridays? When your girlfriend makes you?! Your answer won’t necessarily affect your chances of winning, so answer honestly (or dishonestly, I guess, if you so please.)

Two winners will be chosen at random, and the first randomly chosen winner will have his or her choice between the tie and bow tie. Both the winners must be EG subscribers, as well as have left a comment below.

The contest ends on February 1, 2011, at 12:00am Pacific. I’ll announce the winners here, on Facebook, and on Twitter the following Tuesday, February 8, 2011.

That’s it! Good luck to all those who enter!

I wear one every Sunday, Monday, and Friday as I’m only a high school sophomore and tie wearing is looked upon as weird in ultra casual California. However, I don’t care as I figured that it’s hard to be truly overdressed. Case in point: You can’t go to a theater performance in shorts, but James Bond could easily be part of a beach party. It’s all about how confident you are when wearing it. Best part: I met my girlfriend because she saw me from a crowd because I was the only one wearing a tie.

I wear a tie as often as I can get away with it…basically a few times a month. It would be more, but I’m starting a new job at a relatively “blue-collar” company and need to make sure I don’t cross any lines with the natives.

  • John

I don’t wear a tie as often as I should. Maybe it I had a really nice one I would find more reasons to put it on!

  • Falcyn

I wear a tie every time I go out with a member of the opposite sex and every time I feel like the outfit I’ve pieced together calls for it; which is most nights.

  • Ian

I only wear a tie on special occasions and job interviews, but I hope that to change in the immediate future. (Read: wish me luck on the job :)

  • Ben

I have mostly ugly hand me down ties from my father/father in law, slowly changing that.

  • Rob

At least once a week. I like a crisp white shirt with a black cardigan and a black tie.

  • Ché

I generally wear bowties about three-four days out of the week :-)

  • Scott

I usually only get to wear a tie one Sundays, but I am about to embark on a series of job interviews, ties will become a slightly more important part of my wardrobe for the foreseeable future.

  • BAH

I wear a tie five to six times a week, and I love to rock the bow tie.

  • GS

I wear bow ties despite the ridicule.

  • Sheleker

The blue/green tie is awesome. I love the texture of the fabric.

  • Emilio

I wear a tie three times a week, at least. Bowties are for special occassions.

  • Wongandrew111

I wear a tie around once a week. I’m in college and have a reputation for dressing above the average, but I don’t want a reputation for being flamboyant. I wear a tie once a week just for the enjoyment of it.

  • Mzf

Both colour schemes are awesome. I would probably choose the tie as I don’t think I could pull off the bow tie. I only usually wear a tie when I need to dress up for a formal event.

  • BaxterClan

I wear them whenever I want to impress.

  • Red_warrior47

I’m a brand new reader (this is the first post I’ve read, actually!) and already I’m quite pleased to learn something new and useful. I typically wear a tie relatively often, about 2-3 times per week or so. I have yet to venture into sporting a bow tie, although I have been curious about giving one a try.

    5 days a week.

  • Brice

I wear a tie 5 days a week as part of my work attire, but try to wear one of my own 2 or 3 days of the week. I usually split time wearing a regular tie and bow ties. If you have the confidence and wardrobe, bow ties are great. A little hard to learn to tie in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it you’ll be getting compliment everytime you wear one.

  • Clement Miao

I wear a tie everyday even though I’m a college student. I usually go either with solid shirt with patterned tie, or solid tie with plaid shirt. Once in a while, I will pull out the satin black bowtie.

  • Hoy2253

It really depends on the occasion and my mood as to when I wear a tie. But I do agree that having an assortment of ties is a must have as a man.

  • Josephlsimpson

I wear a tie there times a week. Bow ties once a month.

  • Collin

I wear a tie less than once a week. I wear them any time I am making a big decision or doing something very important. For example, I am wearing a tie when looking at houses tomorrow, and I plan on wearing one when I buy a car later this week. I’m also going to wear a tie when I’m flying next week, but it might be a few months before I have another tie wearing occasion after that.

I rock a tie for weddings and funerals (i know, i know). and thats pretty much it. But then again, all of my ties are formal…

  • Mcc2230

I don’t wear a tie enough although I aspire to more often simply to bring back the more formal society we once enjoyed, i mean or not.. that works too i suppose. Hey, its free BLUE and PLAID. Gee golly gum I hope I win this is the second time i have tried to win one of these hip little numbers.

  • ZTL

I am currently still in college, so I wear a tie about once a week for dress dinner at my fraternity. I’m looking forward to next year when I’m in the real world and will be wearing a tie everyday.

  • http://hellonedman.com/ Nathanael Saldaña

About four times a week :) You’re right, a man can never have enough ties.

  • Anonymous

Great post and great ties. I wear ties every chance I get. Since I don’t have to wear one to my casual office it is nice to be able to wear them when I want instead of when I have to. I love wearing ties in a creative way.

    I’m a Sunday tie wearer!

  • Stephen

Although my work has a casual/lax dressing policy & rarely see any of my male co-workers wear a tie, I insist on wearing a tie at least 3-4 times a week. I like the idea of looking “professional” when at work. The irony of it all, is that when someone at my division at my work requires a representative to talk to a client or business partner in person, I’m the one who is automatically delegated to do so because I look the most professional out of all the workers. Go figure, LOL!

As usual I wear a tie on special occasions i.e. wedding and funerals. If I worked at a place that would prefer that you dress business formal I would be more than happy to wear one. Until then I will continue to wear my khakis/polo combo with the occasional button up.

I actually prefer to wear a tie everyday since there are so many possibilities with colors, patterns and textures.
