A new look and feel for EG + 5&B updates

in Fifth&Brannan, Site Updates

Hi guys,

You might have noticed things look a little different around here.

Over the weekend I was able to make a lot of the site changes I’ve been planning for a while now. With all the writing I do for this site and BC.com, and the freelance work, it was tough carving out time to do this update.

There were a couple reasons behind the upgrade. One, the initial design was really graphics heavy and some readers were starting to experience slow loading times. That will only get worse as the amount of content (and visitors) increases.

Secondly, the back-end is much more flexible now, in terms of adding more features on the site. Soon I’ll be adding a Start Here tab in the main navigation for the go-to resources all new or relatively new readers look for. That should be really helpful and I hope to have it done this week.

You also might notice the past content is more visible and accessible. The home page is now laid out with one main article (the newest one), followed by snippets of the previous four posts, which you can click on to read the full piece. You can see older posts by clicking Previous Entries (or the pagination) at the bottom. Take a look at the archives for a list of all the previous posts.

I hope you like the redesign. Keep an eye out for more subtle changes here and there in the following weeks, and let me know if you see something funky.

In other news

I’m also preparing for the launch of Fifth&Brannan this June. I mention 5&B here and there, but if you’re relatively new to EG, you might not know what’s going on.

Fifth&Brannan is a high-end mens’ clothing label I co-run with the gf Katie. We focus on really tailored-fitting garments with subtle hidden details, and everything is produced and manufactured here in San Francisco. You can learn more at fifthandbrannan.com, where Katie writes about all her experiences with this line firsthand.

Because of our upcoming launch and the fact that I handle all of 5&B’s marketing, web, sales, and partnership efforts, I have a lot to prepare for in that two-month span. The redesign of this site as well as fifthandbrannan.com are two of the major tasks on my list.

Regarding 5&B, we’re on the hunt for models for the event, as well as photographers and a videographer. We pay in handmade ties, pocket squares, shirts and pants, so if that currency vibes with you, let me know if you’re able to help. The launch event will be in San Francisco, so it would be great if you’re local or willing to make a trip out here. If you have a friend of a friend who might be able to help, that’s great as well. Pass them my email! (barron[at]fifthandbrannan[dot]com)

Oh right, speaking of the event, it is (tentatively) scheduled for Saturday, June 18, 2011. We’d love for you to make it! Stay tuned for more details.

As always, thanks for reading, and if there’s anything you’d like to let me know, just say so below in the comments.

Til next time!

    Looks very nice Barron.

I think the cleaner page really suits the ethos of the site. The way you present the graphics on the site is lovely too. You are really are carving out a niche.

PS got my grey desert boots – hooray!

Thank you sir! Glad you approve.

That’s great to hear! Did you find a place to ship to you, or were you able to find some at a store?

Excited about the 5&B launch…when payday comes around, I hope to pledge. Get some of those pocket squares on the streets of London!

Thanks Sam, I’m glad you like the changes.

We’d love your pledge! And hopefully soon we can get 5&B across the pond.
