Why you should ignore fashion sites if you want to improve your style

Maybe there’s a place for fashion lovers in this wide open world we call the Internet, but from a practical, everyday sense, I don’t see much of a point to it… especially men’s fashion blogs (thankfully there are much fewer of them than in the womenswear world).

Here’s why: the everyday guy can’t afford the items featured on these blogs. On top of that, the style is often so fashion-forward, it’s completely unrelatable to the average guy. What’s worse, most guys don’t give two shits about how they present themselves; are photos of dudes walking down runways supposed to change their minds?

Like I said, I’m sure there’s a place for these sites out there. But never mistake EG for a fashion blog.

If you’re a regular reader of EG, you know I’m all about a Lean Wardrobe and having fewer but better, more versatile items.

Still, there are a few things I could use in my wardrobe that I don’t yet have. Creating a well-curated closet is an ongoing process that’s never really finished, in my opinion anyway. Here are four things I hope to add sooner rather than later (so I can still enjoy them while it’s warm out).

Five Tips on Dressing to Flatter the Short(er) Body Type

June 28, 2012

The average height of the American male is just above 5’9”, which means there are over 80 million men who might be considered “short” in the United States alone. At 5’6”, I’m one of them, and I can tell you from personal experience how hard it is to find clothes that fit well off the rack.

You don’t need to dress “taller”. The goal shouldn’t be to stack up as many imaginary inches as possible. Instead—and this goes for men of any height—you should dress to flatter your body type.

So, before you go out and buy platform shoes and a pinstripe suit, here are five simple pieces of advice for men of modest height.
