Ask The Readers: Would YOU find a personal style consultation helpful?

May 29, 2012

Since releasing The Effortless Guide to Graduating Your Style, I’ve gotten some great feedback from those who are currently going through the manual. A few have even suggested I do personal style consultations for the extremely motivated who want to make sure they get the most out of GYS.

Interesting suggestion!

My question to you is this: Would YOU find a personal style consultation helpful?

Friday Giveaway: Here’s your chance to add to the mint

May 18, 2012

A few days ago, image-based social network Pinterest raised $100 million in funding, placing their valuation at something like $1.5 billion. Amazing.

Pinterest is pretty cool. It’s fun to use and browse, and I can see why it’s addicting. Kinda like Tumblr and its endless scrolling.

But you know what I like better than Pinterest? Gentlemint. It’s a mint of manly things.

Why you should have a relationship with your barber

Here’s a little-known fact: I’ve been cutting my own hair since I was 13. My buddy had a set of clippers, and like any idiotic / brave / curious 13-year-old, I attempted, and failed, to give myself a decent haircut. Ask The Readers: How do you buy your basics?

May 10, 2012

Hey gents,

It’s been hot as balls here in SF lately, and as I pace around all sweaty in my dark denim, people are walking around dressed as if they’re in South Beach Miami.

Can’t blame them, though. It’s way too hot for heavy denim. So I hopped on down to Old Navy tonight and snagged like 5 pairs of shorts. My total was $112. Not bad, considering that before I even thought of Old Navy, I was about to drop $50-$60 on just one pair.

I don’t always shop based on price though. If you’re a long-time EG reader, you know that I advocate buying quality when it matters, and skimping a bit when it doesn’t.

I spend money on good shoes, good liquor, good electronics… things I like and want a good experience owning / using. But when it comes to, say, boxer briefs, I’m okay with whatever Target carries.

Basics: Worth the splurge or okay to skimp?
