The Effortless Guide to Cocktails: See Mix Drink

Hey gents,

So I realized it’s been a while since we’ve talked about cocktails. Even though I stopped mentioning them, doesn’t mean you stopped drinking, right?

In that case, it’s probably a good idea I pick it up again; I’d hate to be responsible for your sad descent into poorly-mixed drinks and girly, overly-sweet shots named after NSFW body parts.

To help steer you away from bad drink decisions, I’m introducing you to this book I recently stumbled upon, called See Mix Drink: A Refreshingly Simply Guide to Crafting the World’s Most Popular Cocktails, by Brian D. Murphy. If it isn’t obvious, I’m a fan of infographics, charts, and anything visual that helps readers better understand layers of information and how they relate (maybe it’s the designer in me, who knows).

What makes this book different from every other cocktail book out there?

Straight from the intro of the book itself:

… Like most people, I am a visual learner, yet most cocktail books on today’s shelves are laden with text-based recipes and wordy instructions…

… See Mix Drink empowers readers to be come instant cocktail-making experts. This book brings intuitiveness and ease-of-use to cocktail making in an innovative visual format.

It’s a beautiful book.

I have to admit, this is my favorite cocktail book I own now. Sure, it’s limited in breadth (I’ve seen cocktail recipe books that have hundreds of different drinks), but you’re a simple man that knows what he likes. Even if you don’t yet, once you figure it out, you most likely won’t venture past your rotation of three or four different cocktails.

It’s always ambitious to have thousands of cocktail recipes on hand, and I commend you. But trust me, you won’t need any of those once you get a hold of this book.

The one book your bar needs

Not only are the visuals helpful when figuring out the proportions of each ingredient, but it actually makes mixing drinks fun and fool-proof. I have a feeling (if you’re like me) that you’ll be even more experimental once you pick this up.

You’ll probably realize, “Oh, so that’s how you make an Old Fashioned? Easier than I thought!” Who knows, maybe you’ll find a new favorite drink.

Anyway, you get the point. Pick one up and start practicing your bartending skills in time for all those holiday parties coming up.

Find See Mix Drink on Amazon. Just so you know, when you purchase this book through one of our links, a small chunk of change goes to supporting this site.

Don’t forget to join EG on Facebook, we got a lot goin’ on over there.

Nice find – I’ve been looking for a sort of basic guide to mixing cocktails and it looks like this might be the one.
