The Endorsement: GTH Shoes

Hey Gents —

I’ve stated a few posts back that I’m not the type to stick to one style archetype, and I encourage you to be the same way. The beauty of personal style is being able to take pieces / trends / inspiration that you are drawn towards and use it to express yourself. Everything else that doesn’t fit your fancy? Simply discard or ignore it.

That being said, I think a man should have at least one GTH piece in their sartorial arsenal… and the more the better, because life really is too short. What defines a GTH piece? I classify it as something outlandish, loud, abrasive… a piece that tells everyone who confusingly looks your way to, well, go to hell.

Remember, as always, there are rules involved when pairing and combining, and most likely, multiple GTH items won’t look good together. A stand-alone piece in an ensemble, however, could look killer.

Here’s my latest acquisition: the Sperry Top-Sider Limited Edition Authentic Original Boat Shoe. Phew! Long name. I realize the GTH-ness of clothing is relative and subject to one’s own style, but for me personally, this is a step above in comparison to what I normally would wear.

What’s the lesson here? Don’t be afraid to go a little outside your comfort zone when buying or wearing clothes. As long as it compels you and draws you in, give it a chance. Go with your gut instinct, and more often than not, you’ll do just fine*.

*that is, assuming you’ve been following this blog and the rules contained within.

Hey Barron, look I know is not the issue of this post but regarding your example of a GTH piece here is a pair of shoes I got a problem, a big F**** problem and Im really geting stuck on this… Look I dont use leather and probably wont because of a strong moral statement, Im ok with people if they use it but Im not using it… Ok now the thing, I know the best looking shoes, best quality and more stylish ones are leather… How, in god sake, can I get stylish with canvas or fabric shoes (in replacement of leather casual) to wear without looking childish, because the number one reason I have for upgrading my stile is that I want to look like a grown up, as fancy or kiddy as it may sound. Im 21, I love your posts, also read those from Antonio Centeno, Megan collins and others and im really geting the sence of the stuff but thats the only thing Im stuck on, the GOT DAMN shoes… I need advise on that since non of you (style bloggers) had written something about this subject. I need alternatives, brands, colors, styles.

    Thanks in advance
    Peace
