Fall is arguably the best season for menswear. With the onset of cooler temperatures, we have an opportunity to wear heartier fabrics, warmer colors, and interesting layers.

This fall capsule wardrobe from J. Crew is taking advantage of both the chilly weather and the more fun (and seasonally appropriate) colors and fabrics.

Check out these great fall looks from one of our favorite brands.

Well Put Together, Not Much Effort

Some days, you’ll need to quickly head out the door and meet friends, run errands, or pick up lunch from your favorite corner deli. An outfit that’s well put together without taking too much effort is key.

A pair of chinos and denim shirt is a no-fail option. Pair that up with comfy camp socks, suede wallabees, and a comfy puffer, and you’re good to go.

Quick note about colors: Don’t be afraid to throw browns into the mix this season. While yes, it’s a menswear neutral, meaning it will always be a good choice that’s easy to match, it’s especially on-trend this season. Win-win!

Texture Heaven

Here’s a way to add a pop of color to your outfit without going overboard. Pick one garment in a seasonally appropriate, non-neutral color, then pair it up with complementary pieces that are more toned down.

Going for menswear neutral colors is the easiest way to do it. One oft-overlooked element: your clothing’s textures. The handfeel of a fine-wale corduroy, a soft lambswool pant, a sturdy leather shoe.

These are all worthwhile considerations when getting dressed, especially for cold weather.

A Preppy Throwback With Updated Details

Don’t be afraid to wear this blazer all season long until Spring hits. You might be convinced that blazers or sport coats are only for “dressing up” but they work just as well over a T-shirt and sweater as they do with a dress shirt and tie.

This melton wool blazer is perfect for chilly temps, and its classic styling—three-roll-two, notch lapel, patch pockets—in 100% wool from renowned fabric mill Abraham Moon & Sons means you’ll be utilizing this thing for years to come.

In this case, we’re giving 90s prep vibes with creased denim, an oxford shirt (which you probably already have in your closet), and a funky paisley tie, all of which are grounded by the navy wool blazer.

Your Fall Additions from J. Crew: Match Cooler Temps With Cooler Looks

A fall and winter wardrobe refresh doesn’t require much. If you’re an Effortless Gent reader, you already have great supporting pieces in your closet. You may just need to add a few of these items to your arsenal.

Remember that even one or two pieces can help create a handful of brand new outfits, it just takes a bit of creativity mixing and matching with stuff you already own!
